Simone Drucker | Principal Licensed Landscape Architect in the State of California

COMPOUND EYE is a landscape architecture practice inspired by the beauty and complexity of natural ecosystems. We bring elements of regional biology - patterns, plant species and other materials - directly into private and public landscapes. With roots in the Monterey Bay Area, I am heavily influenced by the ecology and form language of the Central Coast.

The name “Compound Eye” is a multi-reference; it is the distinctive eye structure of invertebrates (ie, pollinators). It suggests Landscape Architecture as seen through a different perspective - a non-human one - paying respect to the life forms that activate and maintain [plant] life on Earth.

The practice is based in Santa Cruz and serves all of California, with an interest in expanding and collaborating outside the boundaries of the Golden State.

ETHOS

LANDSCAPE AS FUTURE-PROOFING: Landscape architecture serves a greater function than merely an aesthetic backdrop. Every project contributes to the overall health and functionality of the site. Investing in the development of outdoor spaces sets them up for success well into the future, course-correcting existing issues and maximizing the benefit of the site for years to come.

LANDSCAPE AS LIVING ARTWORK: each site has its own inherent story, its own natural history, and a dream for realizing its full potential. All landscapes slowly evolve over time like an ever-changing art installation. It is our goal to guide and lay the groundwork for that evolution, ensuring the site continues to perform as it grows.

LANDSCAPE AS HABITAT: Every landscape, large or small, has the potential to support life and become a functioning part of the regional ecosystem. This is the backbone of my philosophy as a landscape architect: humans are never the only clients. Additionally, the human experienced of a rehabilitated site is enhanced when it is alive and functioning as a vibrant habitat.

LANDSCAPE AS LIFESTYLE: my work supports all levels of participation in the landscape. From the avid gardener who would like a space to grow vegetables or manage their own seasonal blooms, to the busy client who prefers that their site performs with little to no intervention, we can create a space that fits your lifestyle and how you want to relate to the landscape.

This was entirely written by a human.
